SailboatElectric

Electric Sailboat Conversion Kit (Inboard or Outboard) Up to 30′ Sailboats

The Electric Motorsport .com Sailboat Kit will convert your 3-12 HP diesel engine to clean, silent electric propulsion! It is designed for sailboats up to 30 feet long. Usually Electric Marine drive systems of this power cost $4,000 and up, but this do it yourself Electric boat kit makes it affordable at about a third of the cost. ******* Kit Includes: Brushless Mars PMAC motor, PMAC Controller, Pot box throttle, Foreward/Reverse switch, Ignition key, Contactor, Fuse, Wiring harness ******* Please note: Due to the high RPM of the Mars Brushless motor, we recommend using a gear reduction system rather than direct-drive. This will improve efficiency, provide proper torque and cooling, and prevent cavitation. Typical reduction is around 3:1, but will depend on the required prop RPM needed to reach hull speed. Proper reduction will enable the motor to spin your prop at the hull speed RPM of your prop when it is spinning at its max RPM. This number can be estimated using the 70 rpm/volt constant (48 volts * 70 rpm/volt ~ 3400 rpm max). *Appropriate prop required based on motor rpm and the boats hull speed.

Variable Throttle for smooth speed control
Brushless Motor design makes brush maintenance a thing of the past.
Easy forward and reverse switching with a flip of a switch
Motor and Controller (250 Amp only) support Regen which means with an appropriate prop this system can recapture energy to help recharge the battery pack. So under a heavy sail this system can be generating power off the dragging prop.
Drive motor can be mounted inboard OR outboard.

sailing.importantfantastic
You don’t have to be an athlete to love going sailing. The truth is, anyone who has that enthusiasm of being in the water would surely enjoy sailing. In my case, what I love most about this activity is the fact that it gives me an idea of what it feels like to be in paradise. The sound of the waves, the taste of the wind blowing, and the sight of sunrise and sunset cause me to feel so full of life. And this is the simple reason that when I have the chance, I never forget to include sailing in my holiday trips. If you are interested in going for a sail with some close friends and loved ones, make sure that you have everything that you may need in your sailing bag.

The most important part of going on a trip is planning. It doesn’t matter if you are just going to a neighboring town for a picnic, or you have decided to go out of the country to explore other places; you need to plan and prepare for every aspect of your trip. In addition, it will be to your advantage later on if you have thought about and prepared yourself for the possible problems you may face while you are on the trip.

When going sailing, the time of your trip should be well thought of. Every time I plan to go for a sail, I make sure that the weather will not cause me any troubles on the sea. You should also make sure how long you are going to be on the sea. By doing this, you will have an idea of what things you should put in your sailing bag.

My very own sailing bag isn’t very big at all, but I make certain that it has the most crucial items that will make sure not just the fun of my sailing trip, but my safety. First of all, you need to have a battery powered flashlight and radio to be ready for emergencies. Bad things can happen to you while sailing and so you wouldn’t want to be stranded in the middle of the sea having no way of contacting anyone.

Your sailing bag should also include medicines, drinking water, sun block, extra clothes and extra food. All these will ensure that no matter what happens on your trip, you will survive for some time until you get help. Needless to say, you will also have to have your life vest with you.

Sailing is a fantastic and thrilling activity that you can enjoy with your family and friends, but of course safety and preparedness should always come first. Here you can find the list of things that your sailing bag shouldn’t be without.

Buying a Used Sailboat
By Matt J Sims

If you want to experience the freedom of sailing and moving gracefully through the water with nothing but wind power, than buying a used sailboat is your ticket to getting there. With so many sailors on the water – and owners growing out of smaller boats or down-sizing from bigger boats – there is currently a booming used sailboat market. The sailboat of your dreams may be on sale right now, just waiting for you to find her!

Buying a used sailboat can be a safe, high value bet if you know what to look for. Search for sailboats that were kept for many years by the same owner. This means that even if the boat was not meticulously maintained – though many are – you still have access to the history of the sailboat and what kind of conditions it was exposed to.

Sailboats are built sturdy and made to weather rough conditions. If you find a used sailboat with a strong hull, it won’t be far off from a brand new sailboat. Other key parts to look at are the sails, lines, and mast. If these parts look good and the basic structure of the sailboat is sound, then there is no need to buy a new sailboat. If the sailboat comes with a suspect engine, weigh the costs of a new engine and how vital it is to your sailing needs. Remember that these kinds of parts can always be taken out and replaced, but the hull cannot.

The key in buying a used sailboat is research, research, research. Know your needs, know your budget, and search for a sailboat that meets your standards. If you need more help, there is a wealth of information online that can help you in buying a used sailboat.

Different Types of Sailboats
By Matt J Sims

While most people tend to think of sailboats as all being the same, there are actually a variety of different types of sailboats in use throughout the world today. The basics still apply to them as far as sails and using the wind to power them through the water, but the features that make them unique offer a variety of different benefits to people, depending on their personal preferences.

Many people wrongly assume that the size of the sailboat is the defining characteristic that separates it from other sailboats on the water. While different size sailboat will certainly have different features and provide its passengers with an array of different comforts, it’s not the size that really matters. The most common differences between sailboats have to do with the number and the position of masts that each ship has, though in recent years, that is no longer the only distinction.

Through more recent technology, the number of hulls that a sailboat has is also an important consideration when determining what distinguishes one ship from another. Multiple hull sailboats are also more commonly referred to as catamarans. These sailboats offer greater stability than its monhull (as they are now being referred to) counterparts due to the wide spread between the hulls. This creates strong leverage, which allows them to cruise as greater speeds than the monohulls.

Many modern catamarans have surprisingly spacious areas below deck for any number of purposes, including storage, sleeping quarters, and basic shelter. There are also three-hulled sailboats known as trimarans and these are becoming very popular in recent years.

As far as the traditional monhull sailboats that most people are familiar with, the most common of all of them are the single mast sailboats. Also known as a sloop, these sailboats have a single mast that is either set into or stepped to the hull, or the deck of the ship. This mast supports two sails, the mainsail and the headsail (sometimes referred to as the jib). The mainsail is the aft sail and the headsail is to forward sail.

The catboat and the cutter are two variations of the sloop. The catboat has the mainsail at the front of the ship and the cutter holds the mast aft and can commonly feature two jibs along with the mainsail. Having a single mast sailboat is easier to control and maintain and therefore is the most common sailboat for schools and lessons.

Then there are the two-mast sailboats. These usually start at forty feet and can run up to as large as one-hundred fifty feet long. They are generally designed for longer voyages and are not very practical for local cruising, except for cruises and other expeditions as part of a business where several hands are on staff for these cruises.

There are several different kinds of two-mast sailboats that include the schooner, ketch, and yawl. There are also three-mast sailboats which build on the concept of the two-mast, and are mostly associated with the classic sailing ships throughout history.
